  • Involvement is principally in Years 4 and 5 of the curriculum
Postgraduate
  • Course Co-ordinator, Module on Systematic Reviews and Meta-analysis in Master of Public Health Research Programme

Research Interests

My main research interests are in cancer, 'medically unexplained symptoms', and evidence-based primary care. My work in cancer focuses on the role of primary care in screening, early diagnosis and management. The main emphasis of the work on medically unexplained symptoms has so far been on patients who are frequently referred from primary to secondary care - we are interested in developing new ways of responding to the needs of these individuals.

Current Research Involvement

  • Evaluation of the second round of screening in the UK Pilot of CRC Screening. Weller D, Campbell C, Moss S, Campbell H, Parker R. Research & Development Directorate, Department of Health (UK).
  • Complex intervention to improve informed choice in PSA testing in Scottish primary care: pilot study. Weller D, Campbell C, Jepson R, Kendall M, Moss S, Melia J. A. Chief Scientist's Office (Scotland).
  • Evaluation of the third round of screening in the English CRC screening pilot. Weller D, Campbell C, Parker R et al. NHS Cancer Screening Services.

Other Responsibilities/Activities

  • October 2002 - Chair, Primary Care Clinical Studies Development Group, National Cancer Research Institute, UK
This is a national group which oversees primary care & cancer research capacity-building
  • June 2006 - Head, School of Clinical Sciences and Community Health
The School encompasses over one third of the university's medical research and teaching - one of only 4 'mega-departments' in our College of Medicine & Veterinary Medicine. It comprises 5 Rsearch Centres, 4 Divisions and a Postgraduate Dental Institute; it has over 250 academic staff and an annual research expenditure of £14m School programme.
