Research training
Postgraduate research teaching/training is an important activity for the Centre, both as a contribution public health research capacity, but also because it is highly relevant to the research endeavours of the Centre, and enables the identification and nurturing of future researcher leaders. The Centre is currently home to a substantial group of enthusiastic and able research training fellows and PG research students, a number of the latter being international students with scholarship funding.
In CPHS research training is provided at a number of levels:
PG Research degrees and fellowships
The research undertaken by our PG research students/fellows addresses a range of the research specialisms - in terms of health topic and/or methodology applied. A highly supportive and stimulating research training environment is created through a programme of informal events and seminars and an annual half day conference. Selected courses from the MPH are available as "conversion" research training for those commencing their studies at CPHS without prior experience of specific methodologies in public health and epidemiological research. The are two routes to this research training in CPHS:Taught degree
Given the broad and interdisciplinary nature of public health, and the diversity of research methods needed for public health research, Master of Public Health (MPH) provides excellent initial training for a research career in this area, and a sound foundation for higher research degree study.Research training courses
A range of free-standing introductory and specialised training and CPD courses are offered.
