Intercalated Honours in Epidemiology
Course Organiser: Jackie Price
Over a number of years CPHS has offered an intercalated honours year in Epidemiology, leading to the award of the degree Bachelor of Medical Sciences with Honours in Epidemiology - B Med Sci (Epidemiology).
The honours year is available to medical students who have successfully completed the first two or three years of their MBChB course. Entry is competitive and based on previous academic performance.
Course aims:
To enhance students' understanding of epidemiological methods and provides them with the experience of using these methods in the investigation of a scientific problem.
Student learning is achieved by:
- undertaking compulsory taught courses in epidemiology and statistics (on the Master of Public Health programme) and two elective taught courses;
- joining a research group in CPHS to carry out an epidemiological project under supervision (see tables for examples of student projects since 2001).
