Public Health
Lead: Professor Raj Bhopal, Bruce and John Usher Professor of Public Health
Public Health has a long and distinguished history at the University of Edinburgh. Raj Bhopal is the 7th holder of the Bruce and John Usher Chair Public Health, created in 1898 and one of the earliest such full-time University posts in the world. In addition to his roles within CPHS - teaching, research, research supervision - Professor Bhopal is honorary consultant in public health in the NHS Scotland, in which role he has a wide range of applied public health duties.
Working with his public health colleagues, and Centre leaders, Raj will help connect the worlds of academic and service public health in relation to education, research, and effective public health and policy. Specific tasks include examining:
- the public health content of our MPH teaching
- the linkages between the Centre and key public health organisations, in order to foster research collaborations, and translation of research.
If you have ideas on these matters Raj would be glad to hear from you.
